Hospice Enriching Services

Care Options for Additional Comfort

An elderly woman with white hair, seated on a wooden bench, gently pats a small brown pony wearing a yellow halter. She is wearing a black visor and a patterned shirt. This enriching scene unfolds in a sheltered area reminiscent of the tranquility found in hospice care.

Ethos Hospice strives to enrich the quality of living for those we serve and believes in making everyday matter. We do this by combining high-quality, compassionate care with life-enriching services to support comfort and meet the unique needs of each individual in our care.

Pet Therapy

Our pet therapy teams are made up of trained hospice volunteers and their certified therapy animals. They visit patients who enjoy the company of animals, and create the opportunity for joy, connection, and comfort. Research indicates engaging with animals can reduce anxiety, feelings of isolation, and depression.

Healing Touch (REIKI)

The practices of Healing Touch and Reiki are based on the idea that energy flows throughout each of us. Healing Touch practitioners and Reiki Masters lay their hands on or near patients to move and transfer energy to reduce stress, anxiety, and pain, and promote healing.

Aromatherapy

Our nurses are trained to use therapeutic-grade essential oils to relieve symptoms such as pain, nausea, anxiety, and low mood. Essential oils have a pleasant aroma and can be diffused into the air or applied to your skin depending on symptoms and patient preferences.

Therapeutic Music

Our therapeutic musicians evaluate patient needs and use songwriting, singing, instruments, and music listening to promote physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being. Therapeutic music can reduce symptoms such as pain and anxiety, prompt life review, and facilitate emotional expression. Our therapeutic musicians also work with other members of the hospice team to connect patients with other music resources such as CDs, personal music playlists, and music volunteers.

Hospice Volunteers

Hospice volunteers play an essential role in the care our team provides for our patients. Volunteers can help with a variety of tasks and activities such as visiting patients in their homes, running errands, playing games, and more. Visit our volunteers page to learn more about ways you can help enrich lives with Ethos Hospice.

Memory Bears

Memory bears are an excellent way to keep the memory of your loved one alive following their passing. Ethos Hospice memory bears are carefully crafted teddy bears made from your loved one’s clothing. Each Ethos Hospice patient can request up to two bears which will be handmade with love by Ethos Hospice sewing volunteers. The sewing pattern is available upon your request if you would like to create additional bears.

Legacy Recordings

One of the most valuable things you can give your loved ones is your life legacy. Our Ethos Hospice legacy project allows our patients to record their story in their own words to share with their loved ones. A trained volunteer will be assigned to facilitate the process and will guide patient’s throughout by providing guided questions and recording stories on a secured voice recorder. Legacy recordings will be gifted to the patient and family on a flash drive when complete.

We Honor Veterans

Ethos Hospice is a proud participant of the We Honor Veterans program. All employees are trained to provide customized and compassionate care to meet the unique needs of veteran patients and their loved ones.
